President’s Message

Without question, business is harder today than any time I can remember.  Decisions are made more cautiously, investments are made more deliberately, and payments are flowing more slowly.  Existing as a subset of the broader general construction industry, and directly tied to the architectural and design professionals, our business has had a front row seat to the market woes of the past four years.  Our ability to nimbly shift our focus to markets who managed to postpone the inevitable, such as Education, Military and Healthcare, allowed us to dodge the bullet for a while, but eventually all were affected and remain so today.  Conclusion:  as already stated, business is tough today.  That’s about all the time we have for that – express it, know it, understand it, and accept it.  Customers, vendors and team members all demand more.  More service, more features, more time, more consideration, more value.  As businesses maneuver to find new markets, competition has increased and our traditional consumers are keenly aware.  There’s really only one option if we are to survive today and thrive tomorrow:  Deliver.  That’s it – we have one option – figure it out and deliver the value that today’s consumers demand.

Our mission is simple today:  Deliver more for less.  It starts with our own internal operations.  They need to be better than before.  Operational problems have never been easier to identify than they are today.  This market has shined a bright spotlight on them and there are no longer excuses for allowing them to remain.  Operational inefficiencies, luxuries, nice-to-haves will be the death of many businesses, but not this business.  Status quo is history.  We will not operate as we have just because we have.  We cannot conform to expectations of others to our own defeat, even when the others are our friends and partners.  Difficult decisions indeed, but when viewed directly without influence they become clear and can be made decisively.

So what are we doing to survive today and thrive tomorrow?  First and foremost, we are continuing to believe in what we do.  We know that we offer more value today that we ever have.  Our deliverable(s) are rooted in solutions that hit today’s challenges between the eyes.  They enable our clients to do more with less.  They promote order and reduce chaos.  But we are not sitting back waiting for you to accept that what we have always done is what you will need today.  We are developing new solutions and new ways to deliver them.  Our recent brand renewal from Filefax to California Space Management, Inc. (CSM) is a meaningful one.  Our nearly three decades of customer interaction and solution creation has armed us with knowledge that few providers in our space have obtained.  This awareness has helped to define our present day position and it has expanded our scope of services.  These services are no longer limited to the storage room, central file system, inventory control or supply room, but instead they lay over your operational infrastructure.  Again, operational inefficiencies cannot exist in successful organizations today.  This is at the root of why California Space Management, Inc. has a future in today’s and tomorrow’s tough economy.  Our purpose is to target specific areas of your operations and to optimize them, while considering your entire operation.  Whether that requires the application of a simple and isolated storage solution, or a much broader enterprise wide functional plan integrating custom design, services and products, we can help you.

Like your organization, CSM is comprised of real people with lives and families outside of this business.  I am particularly proud of our team and the character and values of the people that comprise it.  Working as closely as we do year after year, we naturally become aware of the personal triumphs and challenges that affect each other from time to time.  I spoke of the tough business climate (above) we exist in today and it is true.  However, it is nothing when compared to some of the challenges that we have witnessed the families of our organization face in recent years.  Among them is my own family, when we learned earlier this year that our six-year-old daughter had been diagnosed with cancer.  I share this to bring a perspective to the efforts of our team members, our customers and our business partners.  While our professional efforts tend to occupy the majority of the hours in our day, they must remain in proper perspective with our values.  For us, the leaders are faith and family.  Thru them, we are enabled to deliver our best to you.

Sincerely,

Curtis Dadian, President
